SEA KAYAK SKILLS

Paddle Canada SKILLS LEVELS 1 & 2

Have you wanted to try sea kayaking but need to learn the skills on how to travel on the ocean? Come join us in learning efficient paddling techniques for sea kayaking to increase your comfort level paddling in a coastal environment. On this course you will increase your knowledge about charts and navigation, understanding tides, currents and tidal rapid predictions, as well as understand marine weather systems and forecast information. Course will cover self and assisted rescue techniques, towing skills, paddling skills, maneuvering in waves and currents, and how to operate a marine VHF radio to obtain marine weather information, make distress calls and communicate with other marine and land stations. Upon completion of course, you will receive either a Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Level 1 and/or Level 2 Skills certification.

PRICE: $600 per person based on group size of 6 or more

ITINERARY: 

• Day 1: Arrive to Descanso Bay Campground, Gabriola Island to set up camp and relax by the water. Camp Descanso Bay. You can delay your arrival until Day 2 with an arrival at 9 am at Descanso Bay Campground.

• Day 2: Paddle and Rescue Skills; On land Training. Overnight, Descanso Bay

• Days 3-5: Three full day paddle days, moving camp, on water and land skills training. Camping.

• Day 6: Course end, homeward bound.
