Fire and Ice at
Stanley Glacier

Two summers ago was a record season for forest Fires in Western Canada. We will begin our day on the Fireweed Interpretive Trail. We will then tour parts of Kootenay National Park and the Stanley Glacier Trail to witness the results of last summer’s fires and the re-growth process from previous from previous fires.

Along with spectacular views of Stanley Glacier, this trail features an array of wildflowers and massive limestone cliffs. High in the alpine, we will eat lunch, take pictures, and have the opportunity to explore a local cave. With luck we might even see a bear, mountain goats or a hoary marmot. Come and learn about the fascinating relationship between forest ecology and fire.
